Abstract
Purpose: Academic resilience is the capacity of prospective teachers to persist, adapt and achieve in their academic activities in the face of difficulties, hindrances, or adverse conditions. The context of academic resilience among prospective teachers can be influenced by various factors which are included in his study. The purpose of this study was to compare the academic resilience of the prospective teachers of West Bengal in terms of their gender, residential setup, and family income. Here, academic resilience is studied overall and its three different dimensions i.e., (i) perseverance, (ii) reflecting and adaptive help-seeking and (iii) negative affect and emotional response separately.
Method: The present study was conducted using a descriptive survey approach. B.Ed. Students were the participants, and five hundred and three samples were considered using simple random techniques. A standardized tool named the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) by Simon Cassidy (2016) was used to collect the relevant data. Data were analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics.
Findings: The study found that academic resilience is not determined by the gender of prospective teachers when it is considered either overall or dimension-wise separately. However, the Nature of the residential setup and family income greatly contributed to developing their academic resilience.
